If you’re looking for a little peace and quiet while visiting Jekyll Island, St. Andrews picnic area is a great place to spend a pleasant afternoon.
Located on the southern tip of Jekyll Island, St. Andrews offers panoramic views across Jekyll Sound toward Brunswick and abroad from a convenient location that’s easy to get to via bike, vehicle, or on foot.
This portion of the island receives minimal traffic year-round, with tourists spending most of their time at either the central portion of the island surrounding Jekyll Island Historic District, or at the beaches on the island’s eastern seaboard.
Much of St. Andrews picnic area is shaded, making it perfect for picnics under a canopy of Spanish moss and live oak trees. The picnic area also provides plenty of parking, as well as restrooms, picnic tables, and a two-story observation deck at the end of one of Jekyll’s well-maintained trails.
Photo opportunities abound at South Jekyll, where vistas of Cumberland Island toward the Atlantic side put Georgia’s Golden Isles in perspective. To the west of the observation deck flow the waters of Jekyll Sound, fed by three rivers: the Satilla, Little Satilla, and Brunswick River.
The dunes and beach area are well maintained by the Jekyll Island Authority, resulting in a clean, natural setting for families to enjoy. So if you’re looking for a peaceful place on the island to spend time with family and friends, St. Andrews picnic area is a great place to start.
